Before we talk about the tactics, you must understand what a tactic is in Cricket.
To begin we need to understand what Cricket Strategy and Tactics are and how we can use them.
As we learn these skills and understand them we can not only use them to begin to play ‘Winning Cricket’ more frequently. We can begin to understand, for example, what Gary Kirsten as India’s Coach and M.S.Dhoni as Captain are seeking to make happen on the field during a game. How are they applying cricket strategy and tactics, whether it be in a Test Match, ODI or a 20 20 cricket game.
Strategy in its application in cricket, is the overarching plan to bring victory.
Strategy can be of three types, one is of individual, second is of sub-team which is of few team players with both bowling and batting, third is of the whole team strategy.
Your cricket strategy is broken down into a sequence of steps, which like our man on the staircase here, are most typically followed in a logical form.
One step usually follows the other, although not always, they can be free form, but more of that later.
A simple analogy is to think of a journey from A to E, if you can imagine flying above the journey you will be able to to see the steps from A to B to C and so on to E, you need to go through B to get to C, from C to D, D to E. The steps lead up to E, which is the culmination of the strategy and brings victory with it.
The whole team strategy is not needed for Pakistani Team, They must apply with sub-team.
This whole process starts with winning the toss first, if Pakistani Team wins the toss first. They can won the match. If not, they can even win after not winning the toss. This is literally Ok.
If they Bat First, The sub-team strategy must be that Opening Batsmans must score 150 partnership within 25 overs. And there are now left 25 overs.
Then, One down Batsman must score at least 50 runs and Babar Azam ought to score also atleast 50 runs to win the match. Now there are 250 runs. And this score must be achieved within 36-38 overs. Then there is left. And if now are 12 overs left even then captain must ask Iftikhar at least score 50 and slowly. But when he settles down then he can do hitting. They must take advantage of every delivery after 45th over. Even if the overall team score is 270+ there is no problem. This way they can reach upto 330. If they have set target of 330 they can even win the match.
Then there is control of bowling in this match. They must know the weaknesses of the batters. If they don't, still no problem. Indian pitches mostly are too much of length. Somewhat 26 feet, so there is no need of pacers in these matches. The pacers must know when to slow the ball too much whether there should be slow balls after 20th over or not, and when too swing in and out, whether these are early overs so they can win before the overs end. and when to change the bowling line, if the batter is settled down and hitting so not letting him settled down, before he hits his hundred runs. Mostly South African openers do all the things they can, they all have to do is to not let score them. This way they can win the match by removing early three players of South Africa.
